Erin and I went to see 300 last week at the St. John’s twin cinema. I really like that theater, although the sound and picture quality are not so hot upstairs. But the seats are cushy and the food is pretty good and not overpriced, and I like the fact that the people who work there actually seem to enjoy film. It reminds me of the old keystone theater, in a way. I also like the experience of looking down at the movie instead of craning my neck up. Of course, with 300, I'd be looking down at it no matter where I saw it (cue drum).

The movie tried to out-comic book Frank Miller’s comic book of the same name, while adding liberal doses of heavy metal MTV video and Quake 4. Mix well, serve. Garnish with plenty of up-down camera action (where the camera speedsuprealquick and then s l o w s down and then backupfast) and tack on some fake courtroom intrigue that has nothing to do with the rest of the story.

Went to the dentist the other day. Screwed up my courage and went. I’ve got (Mom, cover your eyes) four cavities. Two in one tooth, and one around an existing filling, another loner somewhere else in my mouth. Bleh. I’ve made some appointments to get ’em done, including two days of back to back dental torture.

I admit it was hard to go back because my last dentist experience was pretty painful. They didn't properly anesthetize me before drilling. Ouch. That was something like five years ago. Hopefully my visits will be more regular now.

Like our friend Dudley said after seeing 300: "Dude...I think I have blood on my face."
