Thinking about this religion thing a bit more. We're all taught that ancient people's invented religion to help explain volcanoes, but this is crap. Volcanoes don't need explaining, they simply are. The thing that gods do is to create a separate box, something outside our realm, to put things in. A set of influences that are by their very nature completely external to us, so that it is US that gods explain. Except they don't, they just push the questions out to one remove. Take evil for example. Why did
Daniel Chan set that church with all the people in it on fire? He'd never done that kind of thing before. Well, that was Evil. The devil made him do it, case solved. A powerful external force showed its hand. But the question lingers: why is there evil? Answer: It's God's will. Question: Why should this be so? Answer: To test us. Question...ad infinitum. Religion is a black box in which to put illogical statements, not to explain the world, but end inquiry about ourselves.
