Still... looking... for... *expires*

Had some good contacts though. Makes me believe finally that I actually CAN get something here, that there is, in fact, some light at the end of this long corridor of closed doors.

Yesterday someone complimented me on my tie. So I got that going for me, too.

There's something similar about marketing yourself and teaching, which is this: you expend a lot of energy. You do this to compensate for the lack of enthusiasm on the receiving end of the presentation, class, whatever. The more enervated their attitude, the more active mine becomes.

Is that codependent?

I had this thought about vampires. They're allergic to crosses, right? But, what defines a cross? I mean, here's a ontological question straight out of the old books. What gives crosses their "crossness"? Are any two intersecting lines a "cross"? Do they have to be perpendicular? What about the ratio between the horizontal and vertical components? How much can we remove from a cross before it loses it's essential defining characteristic? For instance, are two fingers held at right angles considered a "cross"? How do we know to read it as such, i.e. that the fingers are the important part of the symbol?

Vampires, because of their unique allergic, physical reaction to this symbol, could be employed to solve some very deep questions about language kernels. Does anyone know any?
