So, my mom lets me know that I'm not updating my blog as often as I should, not to say as often as she likes, to which my reply is that "Painted door at cabin green. Visited Grandma and Grandpa." is not good copy. But then I remembered that the purpose of my writing, originally, was not to entertain or inform anyone about anything; nor was I writing to or for anybody. I'm supposed to be keeping this for myself. And no matter how boring I get, I'll always find myself worth hearing about. So in the words of Mr. Vonnegut: "And so on".

Today I painted a door green and visited my grandparents. They had lots of questions about my trip to Japan and Asia, or at least grandpa did. In the last year my grandma's mental health has... well, that's a terrible and clinical way to put it. She's slipping.

I found myself talking to them like I was talking to my classes in Japan. Slowly. Loudly. Using short, simple sentences and broad gestures.

Grandpa told me about when he was stationed in Hokkaido. Grandma told me how she stayed in the "finest hotel in Seoul". And had, with her women's christian group, traveled even to the North Korean border. "North Koreans", she told me, "are ugly." I wondered that perhaps they might look like South Koreans, but was corrected. My eyes kept wandering to the signed portrait of George and his wife on the mantle.

Smile and nod.

And so on.
