It would be rude of me not to mention that my previous entry was in part inspired by my reading of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities. Right now I'm reading his If On A Winter's Night A Traveller..., which is a short tale told ten times in different voices. Good stuff. Just finished with Myla Goldberg's Bee Season which was super good. Sad and funny both, and beautiful. Everything in it made such perfect sense in the context of the book, I think because the author's ability to involve you is so good, and then stepping back the story seems very strange. Jewish mysticism, the peculiar madness of kleptomania as an expression of spirituality, and spelling bees. Who could say no to this book, though it makes you cry every time you pick it up?

The picture up top is of one of my favorite horses here right now. They are two black horses, seeming like twins. Even my mother doesn't know their names, so they are simply "the Fresians". Which reminds me of Beowulf. That's their breed. They look exactly like the horses of the nâzgul but they're super sweet.

Last night I made katsudon for everybody.
