I thought I would have all this culture shock, and maybe I will and it hasn't set in yet, but so far it feels like I've never left. It feels so much like I've never left that it's creepy. But I notice stuff more now, and it bothers me. The fat people, the American flags, the Bush signs, the strip malls... the fat people waving their American flags as they go into the Starbucks at their favorite strip mall to talk with each other about how much they love Bush.
You forget about all this stuff when you're romanticizing Home over some Asahi at your local sushi bar.
But it's good to be home. To celebrate I went and shot some guns today! And now, for dinner, I'm gonna eat some meat!
Right now I'm at my dad's in Santa Ynez. Tuesday we drive to Mount Whitney, near Mammoth, to go for a two day hike and scatter my uncle's friend's ashes. Then up to Montana to see my gramma up near Glacier Nat'l Park, and then south again to Utah.
I've got tons of pictures, but I need to edit before I upload them... maybe I'll throw some stuff up here tomorrow just for the hell of it. Damn. I gotta register too. I never thought I would see the day when my dad and I would be talking politics at the table and AGREEING.
BUSH. OUT. NOW.
