So the other night my computer woke me up at four in the morning by playing the badger song at high volume. I know I didn't dream it because I remember waking up and turning the machine off after a few seconds of OMGwhatthehellizzat? But now I can't get the thing to replicate, and I can't find any leads to known viruses/trojans that cause this "problem". Hm. I'm nervous about viruses now, even though that whole Intego thing turned out to be intentional spreading of the FUD. I mean, there's no reason Macs can't have viruses, we're all a happy unix family now... Anyways, anybody out there know if I'm making this up? Heard of anything like it? I can't run .exe's.

In other, less geeky news:

Went to Kyoto for the Aoi matsuri. "Aoi" in this context refers to the leaves on the Tokugawa family crest. The festival celebrates the Heian era with a bunch of listless people silently walking up and down Kyoto in period costume, or sitting atop ragged and underfed horses which plod along the overcrowded streets. Erin and I missed the only excitement, which occurred early in the parade when one of the scraggly beasts broke free of the imperial palace and ran into downtown Kyoto traffic. It survived apparently, but was injured.

I think I know whose horse it was, too. All the feudal lords in the parade were old skinny gentlemen, perfect partners for the valetudinarian horses they listlessly sat astride. All save one "baka"-nalian figure of rubenesque proportion who bounced and jostled on the back of his overtaxed pony, just like some trite and over-referenced literary figure. His poor beast of too much burden crawled along, ears flat back, and with great effort lifted each hoof in a grim slow race for the finish. I imagine this poor horse's predecessor to be the ill-fated escapee, who took one look at his charge and decided to take his chances with the mad hrududu.

Anyways. I'll post pictures of the parade tomorrow. Or maybe tonight.
